Naughty or Nice?

Wherever you go as the season of Christmas becomes ubiquitous, you can be able to find different representations of Santa Claus. Santa Claus is known to be the ‘Father of Christmas’, a celebrated mythical character who is believed to reward people who have been nice during the past year. He is believed to go down chimneys on the night before Christmas when everyone is asleep to leave gifts under the Christmas tree for children who always behaved well. Though he is a mythical character, this event of gift-giving is oftentimes turned into reality by loving parents who wish to give their children a little surprise when they wake up.

Santa Claus resembles a man with a large belly whose face is covered in white beard and is wearing a red robe with white lining. When you go to shopping malls, specialty stores, or sometimes even in the street, you can be able to find people who portray the role of Santa Claus allowing children passersby and audiences to sit on their lap and take a picture with them. Though Santa Claus is sometimes used to promote certain businesses, the jolly thought of seeing this bubbly man around makes the Christmas season more fun and exciting.

Christmas will not be complete without stories of Santa Claus and how he travels from the North Pole riding on his sled driven by reindeers. He then starts his quest of looking for children who have been “naughty or nice”. Children who have been nice are rewarded while those who have been naughty were disciplined by Santa Claus by taking away their favorite toys. The importance of this story is to impart to children the essence of doing good things and though it may just be a fictional story, it has been in our lives since we were young and it will be passed on to the future. Thus, Santa Claus, fictional that he is, will remain in our hearts and lives forever.
